Jordan Wolfson – Body Sculpture

I’m not that familiar with Jordan or his work, I wish I could see it in person, but I keep coming across videos of Body Sculpture and there is only one word that comes to mind – “arresting.”  It stops me in my tracks.

I cannot believe it takes $6 million dollars to bring an idea such as this to life, which makes me think how many pieces of art just don’t exist because of a lack of funding, which is duh but also some ideas take a lot more funding than you would imagine upon first thinking of it.

I’m also not familiar with the controversies surrounding Jordan’s work. It seems his pieces and what he thinks they are about are at times incongruous or purposefully ignite controversy separate from the merits a viewer might experience on their own?

But I am simply posting this here on the merits of what I saw in a few seconds of video.  Mesmerizing performance by a robot.  Arresting, stop you in your tracks art.  Maybe some of the magic goes away if you see it in person or perhaps the artists remarks cannot be separated from the work and simply tarnish it too much to keep it on a pedestal, but for now I am mesmerized.

As a person appreciative of performance, live art, embodied art, I could not look away.  I think there is something here and in his larger body of work as similar thoughts cross my mind when I learned of one of his other pieces (Female figure).

Joy of Quitting – Keiler Roberts

Beautiful series of minimal vignettes on parenting, and life in general but the parenting related ones really spoke to me.  Kinda the opposite of making everything profound. Life is just a series of weird and mundane moments sometimes. Up to us to make meaning of it if we so choose but perhaps that all there is and nothing wrong with that either.  In any case love all the details Keiler has been able to capture in this book (and her other books as well).

Weekly Planner Random Thoughts

Trying something different with a physical planner in addition to a myriad of digital calendars.  The physical one serves as a sort of diary/log that is easy to look back on.

Didn’t think it would be this hard to find “the right one.”  But when you are picky it is so hard. In no particular order thoughts on ones I tried so far.

birds of a feather weekly planner

Bird Weekly Planner Inside

Something I ordered off of Amazon, thought of this idea way into the year so it was slim pickings when I had this idea and before I knew what I was looking for.

Pros:

  • Lays Flat
  • Dates Filled out for you
  • Every day of the week has the same amount of space including weekends
  • Drawings of birds are nice

Cons:

  • No way to easily mark current week
  • Weeks are broken up when they fall on two months
  • tons of extra crud including monthly overviews (sometimes in the middle of a week)

The Completist Undated Weekly Planner Inside

I really thought this was gonna be it. Minimal.  Beautiful perfect.  … wound up giving it away.

Pros:

  • Very Minimal
  • comes with a free bookmark

Cons:

  • Undated so you have to do a lot of manual work filling out dates.
  • Does Not lay flat (huge dealbreaker actually)
  • No way to easily mark current week, I guess boookmark does it
  • Sat/Sunday small, overall very small

Field Notes Weekly Planner Inside

Field Notes make a lay flat weekly planner?  I love Field Notes. I’m in! (also not perfect)

Pros:

  • Field Notes
  • Minimal
  • Lays Flat

Cons:

  • Also have to fill out all the dates manually (just seems needlessly tedious, but they can sell the same one year after year with no extra work.)
  • No way to mark current week easily, even bookmark doesn’t work (falls out), Ive seen calendar with a perforated corner you can tear our, would love this here
  • Sat/Sunday have less space, wish they were the same as all other days of the week.
